Born and raised in Chattanooga, Coty Wamp is a proud Tennessean with a heart for the people of the Volunteer State.

For her education, Coty attended the University of Tennessee to complete a Bachelors of Science in Political Science. She then went on to receive a degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law.

 

Experience

Coty’s experience includes work on all sides of the criminal justice system. Her time as an Assistant Public Defender, Assistant District Attorney, and currently Counsel for the Sheriff’s Office has prepared her to serve as a District Attorney who understands what it’s like to represent criminal defendants, victims, and law enforcement officers.

 
 
  • Currently, Coty Wamp handles all in-house legal matters including but not limited to officer training, investigations advising, contracts, public records requests and subpoenas, liaison between defense attorneys and the HCSO, liaison between the Courts and the HCSO, and supervisor over accreditation and standards.

  • For three years, Coty Wamp worked primarily in criminal court handling major crimes. Over a period of two years, she tried seven felony jury trials, including three homicides, rape of a child, sexual battery by an authority figure, aggravated robbery, burglary of an automobile.

    While in this position, she transferred two juveniles to be tried as adults — both of whom were successfully prosecuted and are serving TDOC sentences.

    In addition, Coty received Gang Prosecution training through the National Gang Crime Research Center in 2019

  • As Assistant District Attorney, Coty Wamp represented hundreds of criminal defendants in both general sessions and criminal court.

    While in this position, she tried three felony jury trials as a Public Defender, first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, and aggravated assault. She also argued a case in front of the Court of Criminal Appeals.
